Excellent, relatable lessons presented in easily digestible chunks about how NOT to be a good manager. The format really has an impact when we consider that 70% of employees nationwide are disengaged from their work owing to bad bosses. Highly recommended for new managers and those who feel they can get more out of their teams.
This is an amazing book by a very intelligent person. The book covers a gentleman who goes through the Butterbeck School of Mismanagement in order to become a horrible leader (which is his intent). It is very thought provoking and as you read you feel like this is an actual school. I have had several bosses that this reminds me of. I highly encourage leaders and staff to read this book in order to learn how to better operate together! Great book Chief Ludwig!
Outstanding and hilarious way of looking at those awful bosses you've had over the years and wondered how they ever got promoted. I chuckled the whole way through the book and even let out a couple of laughs - which brought my wife running into the room once. It is definitely a way of learning leadership principles - just don't do what they teach in the book. Wish I had this book 30 years ago, I would have left it laying on one of my boss's desk as a message of what a jerk he was. Thank you Chief for an outstanding look at leadership!
I completely enjoyed reading this book about a fictional school that teaches people how to be bad leaders. We have all bad leaders and may wonder how did they ever get that way. The message I got was not how to be a bad leader but how to avoid being a bad leader by learning what is poor leadership. This book is full of great examples of poor leadership and the lessons you can take away from reading about them. There is some work for your brain to process the bad examples and how to do the opposite to be a good/great leader. Gary Ludwig has many years of leadership and his work in the book can teach us all about those ways we can avoid being a "mis-manager." The eleven lessons would each be a great discussion point for some informal training to your group. I highly recommend you get a copy to read and keep on your bookshelf.
This was a fun read, that is set in a fictional school that teaches people how to succeed at being bad managers, you could almost believe that it's a real school. If you have ever worked for any horrible bosses
